Luxury Marrakesh desert wedding
Many couples may be dreaming of escaping to a tropical island for their destination wedding, but for Anoush and Raoul, a different location had stolen their hearts. This couple travelled from their home in the Cayman Islands for a truly unique luxury Marrakesh desert wedding, amid rolling sand dunes and dramatic dusky skies. This really was the destination wedding of dreams.
As Anoush and Raoul’s luxury Marrakesh wedding planner, we brought more than a hundred antique items in the colonial style to the dessert. Pianos, pool tables, old Chesterfield leather sofas and even an authentic 10m bar. No task was too large to make this dessert celebration unique.
luxurious oasis in Marrakesh desert
As their luxury wedding planner in Marrakesh, here at Cocoon Events we created a luxurious oasis in the middle of the Agafay desert. Picture a purpose-built platform above the sand, showcasing the stunning views of the desert dunes kissing the horizon. This formed the perfect setting for the couple’s gala dinner, with spellbinding panoramas and a truly immersive experience for their luxury Marrakesh desert wedding.
In addition, we set up an authentic oriental tent with traditional Moroccan decor. Colourful rugs surrounded the tent, offering inviting places to chill out with a locally inspired, laid-back vibe. In the centre, a roaring fire bowl cast the celebrations in a romantic glow.
Colonial styling in the sand
When the big day arrived, the desert was once again transformed. We filled their wedding location with colonial-style decorations. An abundance of natural materials created shade, bright accents added sumptuous pops of colour and unique décor pieces evoked an African flavour.
Ceremony in the desert
The ceremony itself also took place in the middle of the desert – just like Anoush and Raoul dreamed. The couple arrived at the celebration in an old Rolls Royce of the 40s, accompanied by armed cavalry on horses.
During the ceremony, the guests sat on thatch chairs covered with traditional rugs. We prepared trilby hats for each of them, so they would be protected from the sun. Nothing would distract them from the bright and romantic wedding ceremony unfolding before them.
Trained falcons flew in with the rings in a traditional nod to the location. And after the ceremony, the newlyweds opened a bottle of Champagne with a saber. This betokens good luck and a long married life.
As day turned to night, guests were cocooned in spacious, luxurious tents. So not only did Anoush and Raoul marry in the Agafay desert, they also experienced a night beneath the stars. When dawn arrived, they gathered together again in the heart of the desert to see the real soul of northern Africa.
