1. Going global
The very first decision for all of our couples to make in their wedding to do list is to choose where they would like to get married. For some couples, choosing their destination signifies a homecoming. It may be a return to your favourite holiday location, or perhaps the opportunity to experience somewhere entirely new.
From Europe to Morocco to the United States, Cocoon Events’ award-winning team designs wedding events around the world. Simply let us know where you would like to go, and we will light the way.
2. It’s a date
To secure the most sought after, professional and brilliant wedding vendors and venue, you should begin reaching out to them at least 12 months before your wedding date. The most exclusive wedding venues and accommodations for your guests will be in high demand.
Your venue should be the first priority for your wedding planning timeline. As your luxury wedding planner at Cocoon Events, we’ll ensure you find the location of your dreams. Whether a boutique Parisian hotel, a secret riad in Marrakech, or a breath-taking yacht off the Monaco coast… Expect to book sometimes up to 24 months in advance for the most popular and unique wedding locations.
3. Be our guest
For weddings in your country of residence, couples traditionally send out invitations to their beloved guests three months before the wedding date, as the guests will already have received their save the date card. But one of the most important wedding planning tips for an overseas celebration is to mail your invitations early. We would advise 9 to 12 months before your wedding date.
Give guests plenty of time to book their flights, arrange any visa paperwork, and, of course, get excited for your luxury destination wedding too! You want to ensure your family and friends are able to join you for the full occasion. Remember to include details of your pre and post wedding events.
Include details of any menus, so that guests may specify their dietary requirements in advance. Pass these to your wedding planner to collate and organize.
4. Wedding day wardrobe
A highlight of your wedding planning checklist, every bride dreams of the moment they find ‘the one’ and glide down the aisle to the arms of their beloved. We recommend looking for your bridal gown eight to 12 months before your wedding.
The majority of dresses will be available in a sample to try at the boutique, who will take your measurements. Your wedding dress will then be tailor made, a process which takes at least six months, before you return to the boutique for your final alterations.
Keep in mind the style and nature of your destination wedding location. For hotter climates, lighter weight fabric selections like tulle and lace will feel more comfortable on the big day.
Don’t forget to let your airline know your reason for travelling. They will be able to provide a dedicated storage box to transport your bridal gown in as hand luggage. That means your dream dress is safely stowed for the passage and never far from sight.
5. The main event
wedding experience. But we suggest organizing your wedding events to extend over multiple days that your guests are visiting. Incorporate this into your wedding day timeline.
Gather your guests the day before the wedding for a glamorous rehearsal dinner, or a unique excursion to experience the local culture. After you have said ‘I do’, it’s a wonderful moment to reunite once again for a relaxed brunch in the penthouse suite of a luxury hotel with 360-degree views. Alternatively, surprise your guests with a gourmet barbecue, cooked live for them at a pop-up celebration in the National Park or desert landscape.
Your wedding planning checklist and schedule should incorporate many memorable events. This allows you to truly enjoy the experience of travelling with your family and friends and to immerse yourselves in your luxury wedding destination.
